Learn to Sew Online

There are some great resources if you want to learn to sew online. Of course, you could spend a lot of money on books, classes, or both. But why pay for what is available for free? So, I present to you this highly informative (I hope) post on how to learn to sew online.

Free Online Sewing Books

Sewing Lessons for Begginners is a phenomenal book. You really could go from a complete novice to having a good basic understanding of how to sew after reading this one. The site even offers free patterns to help you get started on your first sewing project.

There are also vintage public domain sewing books that you can use to learn to sew online. I'm sure these are full of good information. But I looked through a couple and I had a hard time getting past the old wording. But that's just me. It looks like there are about 20 books at this time. And more are currently being coded.

My personal favorite is the Sew-lutions Guidelines from Sewing.org. The site states that the articles cover "all aspects of sewing, from beginner and learn to sew instructions to advanced sewing techniques." And I have to agree.

I am thinking of using these guides to teach Home Economics to my daughter when she gets a little older. I will start with the first one and go in order. That way we'll have a "textbook" to go along with the hands on sewing instruction.

Free Sewing Video Tutorials

Here is part one of a video tutorial called Sewing 101. You can get to the other parts from that link.

Sewmarm on You Tube has a fantastic tutorial series on how to make a one hour dress. As of the time of this post, the pattern for the dress is $17.

Even if you are sewing a different dress than the one hour one, you can still learn a lot of basic techniques by watching the videos.
